John Barnes Quartet at the George & Dragon

This evening we went to the George & Dragon in Thames Ditton to see the John Barnes quartet, comprising John Barnes (baritone sax, alto sax, clarinet, vocal, monologue, joke), Alan Dandy (keyboard), Mick Durelle (bass guitar) and Don Cook (drums). Our favourite numbers were:
1) Alan and Mick playing Lullaby of Birdland, composed by George Shearing and played in this link by Bud Powell.
2) This Can't Be Love, from the 1938 Rodgers and Hart musical The Boys from Syracuse. The link is to a version by Stephane Grappelli.
3) Alan Dandy's solo feature Solace, A Mexican Serenade, composed by Scott Joplin and played (slowly) on this link by Joshua Rifkin.
Kim Martine (pictured) joined the band to sing 'September in the Rain' and 'Mood Indigo'.
John Lang (trombone) joined the band for 'I Let a song Go Out Of My Heart' and 'Ring Dem Bells'.
A young lady sat at our table making notes and was asked by both John and Don if she was from the Performing Rights Society. She was amazed when I told her I recently received a surprise telephone call from the PRS, asking if we played music at work.
