John Barnes quartet with Kim Martine

This evening we went to the George & Dragon in Thames Ditton to see the John Barnes quartet, comprising John Barnes (baritone sax, alto sax, clarinet and vocals), Alan Dandy (keyboard), Mick Durelle (string bass) and Don Cook (drums). Our favourite numbers were:
Alan's keyboard solo It's The Gypsy In My Soul written for the 50th anniversary of the University of Pennsylvania Mask and Wig show in 1937 by two Penn graduates, Clay Boland (music) and Moe Jaffe (lyrics);
The Way You Look Tonight written by Jerome Kern with lyrics by Dorothy Fields and featured in the Fred Astaire / Ginger Rogers film Swing Time, winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1936;
The two vocals by guest Kim Martine (pictured with Don and Mick in the background):
Where or When from the 1937 Rodgers and Hart musical Babes In Arms;
The Man I Love by George and Ira Gershwin.
By coincidence the two numbers performed in succession, 'The Way You Look Tonight' and 'Where or When' are our two favourites from our CD of 1943 songs, the year of my birth. These two alone on the CD are performed beautifully by the Dinning Sisters.
