The Berrylands Hotel; featuring the Magna Jazz Band every Thursday

This evening we went to the Berrylands Hotel in Surbiton (pictured), to see The Magna jazz band with the standard line-up. I noted six favourite numbers but will limit my comments to just five:
Yellow Dog Blues, traditional but credited to WC Handy;
C C Rider, which might have been written down by WC Handy but was copyrighted by Gertrude Malissa Nix Pridgett Rainey, better known as Ma;
Shimmy-Sha-Wobble by Spencer Williams;
Farewell Blues words & music by Elmer Schoebel, Paul Mares & Leon Rappolo of the New Orleans Rhythm Kings (NORK);
Alan Dandy's beautiful solo feature Skylark composed by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Johnny Mercer.

Pete Towndrow (cornet, trumpet) was back with the band after a long absence following food poisoning. Frances was back in the audience after a long absence for various other reasons. We have only just discovered that she worked with Magna drummer Rex Bennett at the London Palladium where she was a dancer.
