UGH with Mark Aston

This evening we went to The Europa in East Molesey to see the Urban Gin House Band. The line-up (pictured) comprised Alan Brock (trumpet), Mark Aston (tenor sax, curly soprano sax), Alan Dandy (keyboard), Mike Bennett (bass) and Mike Knipe (drums). Our favourite numbers with the full base band were:
'New Orleans' by Hoagy Carmichael;
'Buddy Bolden Blues' claimed to have been written by Bolden's trombonist Willy Cornish and originally titled 'Funky Butt';
'I Got It Bad (and That Ain't Good)' by Duke Ellington with lyrics by Paul Francis Webster.
Alan Dandy played a fine version of 'Stomping at the Savoy, as the break began.
The first guests were John Shepherd (trumpet), Trevor Dockerill (clarinet), Roy Stokes (trombone) and Aileen May (string bass) playing 'Night and Day' and 'You Took Advantage of Me'. I told John that this was my song because Selina took advantage of me when I was 19 by saying "I've got a pair of black stockings in my bag upstairs".
The next guest was Fred Shaw (cornet), with Trevor and Roy, playing 'I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me' and 'I Wanna Little Girl' (vocal by Fred).
This was followed by two great tenor sax duets featuring Ray Lindsay and Mark Aston; 'Tenor Madness' and 'Polka Dots and Moonbeams'.
The last guests were Roland (tenor sax) and Peter Tallent (trombone) playing 'Sugar' and 'All Of Me'.
Colin Lewry played keyboard in the breaks.
