UGH with Terry Ede and Ann O'Dell

This evening we went to The Europa in East Molesey to see the Urban Gin House Band. The line-up comprised Alan Brock (trumpet), Terry Ede (tenor sax, clarinet), Ann O'Dell (keyboard, vocals, pictured), Mike Bennett (bass, in picture background) and Mike Knipe (drums). It was quite a surprise to see Ann at the Europa as we have seen her previously only at the Watermill and at Ripley. Our favourite numbers with the base band were:
'Deed I Do' with vocal by Ann;
'Girl from Ipanema'with fine tenor by Terry.
The first guest was vocalist Julie-Anne Gates, singing 'Moondance' and 'Stormy Monday'. Mike Knipe was displeased that I did not photograph her.
She was followed by John Shepherd (trumpet), Trevor Dockerill (tenor sax) and Roy Stokes (trombone), playing 'Someday You'll Be Sorry' and 'Lady Be Good';
Fred Shaw (cornet), Peter Clancy (trombone) with Terry on clarinet, playing 'I Wanna Little Girl' and 'Indiana';
Roland (tenor sax), Jed Kearse (trombone) and Peter Tallent (trombone) playing 'Blues Back Stage' and 'Making Whoopee'.
Colin Lewry played keyboard in the breaks, joined in the second break by Roland and Peter Clancy (bass) playing 'Satin Doll' and 'Georgia on My Mind'.
One member of the audience had brought his 11-year-old daughter, who is learning to play the piano. We hope that early exposure to the fine keyboard playing by Ann will lead to a lifetime of jazz.
