Gatsby Jazz Band with Roy Stokes and Kevin Scott 


This evening we went to The Wych Elm in Elm Road, Kingston Upon Thames, for the monthly performance by the Gatsby Jazz Band. The picture (from the archive) shows the full band with Roy Stokes in the foreground, deputising for Bob Dwyer on trombone. A change from the picture is that, this evening, Kevin Scott deputised for Mike Adamson on banjo. Our favourite numbers were:
'Breeze' with Alan Jenkins singing as well as playing cornet;
Marching Through Georgia written by Henry Clay Work in 1865, referencing U.S. Maj. Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman's March to the Sea during the previous year;
'Streamline Train' by Cripple Clarence Lofton with lyrics by somebody called Nelson.
