This evening we went to the George & Dragon in Thames Ditton to see the John Barnes quartet, but John was only just out of hospital and Alan Dandy was on holiday so the musicians were Terry Ede (tenor sax, clarinet and flute, pictured), Alan Berry (keyboard), Mick Durelle (string bass) and Don Cook (drums). We were glad to observe that Terry favours the Bossa Nova period so no need for us to nag.
The numbers we enjoyed most were:
Here's That Rainy Day by James Van Heusen and Words by Johnny Burke;
Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham;
Manhã De Carnaval (A Day in the Life of a Fool) by Luiz Bonfa;
Guests were John Shepherd, John Lang and Mark Aston playing 'Some of These Days', 'Just Squeeze Me', 'All The Things You Are' (Terry and Mark's tenor duet) and 'Ring Dem Bells'.
