On Sunday we went to the Royal Festival Hall to see the Philharmonia Orchestra perform Tchaikovsky's Coronation march and Violin Concerto, followed by Mussorgsky's Pictures from an Exhibition.
After all the heavy work recently I ordered safety boots and tough gloves from
Strauss direct. The web site shows more products than the hard copy catalogue but it proved better to order by telephone than on-line.
On Sunday morning we went to a concert by the Vienna Brahms Trio at
The Wigmore Hall. In the evening we had dinner at
The Preston Cross Hotel.
Both were excellent !

Yesterday we visited my 91 year old mother in Southend hospital (Essex, UK). The administrators must be evil, cruel, stupid or all three. The car park is pay and display ! How is someone visiting or transporting a seriously ill patient to know how long they are staying ? No television facilities are provided so the patients are bored stiff. There are not enough chairs for visitors. I could not even see any evidence that treatment is progressing.
I now realise that our local hospital, Royal Surrey, is comparatively good. We got the car parking changed to pay on exit some time ago and televisions are available. Treatment does seem to aim at getting the patient out as soon as possible.
Last night we saw Martin Litton's Rhythm Boys at
The Epsom Playhouse Tuesday jazz club. Piano virtuoso Martin Litton was joined by reed player Mark Crooks, well known local guitarist Nils Solberg, brilliant bass player Pete Morgan and drummer Rod Brown to present a hugely enjoyable swinging evening of jazz.
On Sunday we went to see and hear Colin Kingwell's Jazz Bandits at the
Preston Cross Hotel Jazz Club. I would single out Malc Murphy on drums and vocals; we have also seen him with the Ken Colyer tribute band. A great afternoon with good food and Gales real ale.
